Present Wonders by Matt Hanover

Kids & Teens

Phones away.
Hands in paint.

Private painting gatherings for kids and teens, ages eight and up. Put phones down and make a mess together.

Matt Hanover leads collaborative painting games with changing rules, unfamiliar tools, and shared experiments. Kids make choices together and take turns adding to each other’s paintings.

Make a mess.
See what happens.

Try a color you wouldn’t normally choose. Make a huge mark. Mix everything into mud. You can paint over it or grab a fresh sheet and begin again.

There’s no requirement to make a beautiful painting or keep every experiment.

Kids who love art and kids who announce “I can’t draw” are both welcome.

Painting games.
Shared experiments.

Matt introduces a surprising tool, a new rule, or a painting someone else has begun.

A bell might mean it’s time to swap tools. The next round might ask everyone to switch hands or respond to the music.

No one has to arrive with an idea for a painting.

What to expect

  1. Start with a surprising mark.

Begin on your own paper. Try your other hand or an unfamiliar tool. Make a few marks.

  2. Let the rules change.

Draw a tool from a mystery bag: a sponge, comb, toy wheel, or cardboard scraper. At the bell, swap tools or places.

  3. Pass it on. Respond.

Work in small groups on a bigger painting. Then pass it to another group. Their first move responds to something already there before adding something new.

  4. Make something together.

Take turns on a shared piece, or bring the group’s paintings together. Step back and notice what happened: who gave you an idea, what changed, and what you decided to try next.

These are examples, not a fixed schedule. Matt shapes the games and pace around the group’s ages and comfort levels. More hesitant participants have time to ease in without being put on the spot.

Bring your friends.
Bring your team.

Birthdays

Bring friends together for a painting experience shaped around the birthday child’s age and interests. The birthday child gets celebrated, and everyone contributes.

Sports teams

Spend time together away from practice and competition. Teammates share tools, take turns, and build on paintings another group has started. The coach can join in, too.

Youth groups and other gatherings

Bring a camp group, club, or circle of friends. Activities are adapted to the group’s ages and occasion.
